The path to magic
Losander became interested in magic at the age of eight, when a female magician who was a friend of his grandfather taught him the fundamentals. His later mentors were Finn Jon and Salvano.
On the advice of his wife Luna Shimada, herself a magician, he came to portray a modern wizard by growing out his hair and wearing a long overcoat.
The floating table
The levitation effect with a table is centuries old — the earliest versions were called 'Spirit Tables' and were used by mediums to 'prove' their powers. Around 1997, Losander adapted Tommy Wonder's design and applied it to a small table, allowing it to float.
It became his signature illusion: he has performed more than 1,500 shows with it, and each table is built, signed and tested by Losander himself.
Worldwide recognition
Losander has performed across Europe, Asia, the US and Australia and at the famous Magic Castle in Hollywood. He now lives in Las Vegas, where he runs the Las Vegas Magic Theater with Luna Shimada.
In 2006 he won the Milbourne Christopher Award for 'Illusionist of the Year'. His 'Floating Table' has been adopted into the repertoire of countless magicians worldwide.
Dirk Losander proved that a single perfect illusion can become an artistic legacy. You will recognise that same pursuit of pure, poetic magic in the work of Sudesh Roman.
