House of Mysteries in Ghent: the mysterious magic theatre by the Gravensteen

Hidden in the heart of Ghent, just fifty metres from the imposing Gravensteen castle, lies one of the most enchanting places in Flanders: House of Mysteries. Not an ordinary theatre, but an experience theatre where you are immersed in a world on the border between illusion and reality. This is a tribute to a place where wonder still happens up close.

A secret place full of mystery

House of Mysteries is located in the Jan Botermansstraat, a side street off the Burgstraat, right beside the Gravensteen. Behind its façade hides an intimate world: a cosy little theatre, atmospheric performance rooms, a magical theatre bar and even an exhibition space.

The emphasis is entirely on closeness. The audience is deliberately limited to around 25 to 30 people per performance, so you experience the illusions from up close — interactive, convivial and intimate. Here, no one sits in the back row.

Mystery Nights, comedy and magic

The programme revolves around Mystery Nights in which conviviality, comedy and magical performances come together. It is not a distant magic show, but an evening full of wonder, humour and surprise.

Visitors describe their evening on review sites as nothing short of amazing: a mix of wonder, laughter and pure magic. The small room and the secret atmosphere make every performance a unique experience.

  • Intimate groups of 25–30 people
  • A little theatre, performance rooms and a magical bar
  • A 'Wünderkammer' full of magical curiosities

The artists of House of Mysteries

House of Mysteries brings together some of the finest names in Belgian magic. Regular faces include Nicholas Arnst, a top magician known from television, and Tim Oelbrandt, multiple-time Belgian champion of magic.

There are also themed evenings such as 'Magic & Jazz', combining live jazz with close-up magic, and the 'Magic Bar' with magical entertainment for young and old, featuring artists such as Mister Molotov and his comedy act.

Practical: planning an evening

Because the room is small and intimate, performances sell out quickly. Booking via the official website is strongly recommended. The venue combines wonderfully with a stroll through the historic centre of Ghent.

House of Mysteries proves how powerful magic can be up close. Sudesh Roman brings that same intimate wonder to corporate events, weddings and theatres across Belgium and the Netherlands.
