A true family of magicians
Courtois was born in Waasmunster in East Flanders and died at the age of 74 in Paris, where he gained renown as a travelling magician under the nickname 'Papa Courtois'.
Magic ran in the family: his father, Jacques-François Courtois, was also a magician, as were his sister Reine-Isabelle and several of his children.
Louis Courtois reminds us that the Belgian tradition of magic goes back centuries. You will recognise that same respect for the craft and its history in the work of Sudesh Roman.
